What Is Included in Professional Interior House Painting?
Interior painting can cover far more than applying a new colour to walls. The actual preparation requirements depend on the previous coatings, plaster condition, ceiling materials, timber and joinery, and any existing staining or moisture-related defects.
Suitable interior painting services may include:
- Painting plastered walls and suitable feature walls.
- Preparation and painting of Rhinoboard and other appropriate ceilings.
- Preparation of cornices and suitable ceiling-to-wall junctions.
- Hairline plaster crack preparation and localised repairs.
- Assessment of peeling, bubbling and discoloured paint.
- Preparation of historic water-stained ceiling areas.
- Painting doors, frames, skirting and suitable timber joinery.
- Refinishing appropriate varnished timber ceilings and woodwork.
- Protection of floors, furniture, fixtures and adjoining finishes.
Completed Interior Painting Project – Zevenwacht Village Estate
Our Zevenwacht Village Estate project involved a complete interior repaint of a private single-storey residential property between 8 and 15 July 2026.
The scope included plastered walls, Rhinoboard ceilings, cornices, a timber dining-area ceiling, painted doors, frames and skirting, a stained bathroom ceiling and selected moisture-related wall preparation.
The original inspection recorded Protimeter readings ranging from 8.5 to 16.7 on the recorded meter scale, together with several distinct surface defects.
Original Zevenwacht Village Interior Photographs
The following original photographs document localised paint deterioration before preparation and the completed appearance of the living and dining interior. They are different areas of the same home, rather than identical before-and-after viewpoints.
Original Inspection Findings
- Recorded Protimeter readings ranging from 8.5 to 16.7.
- Hairline and approximately 1 mm plaster cracks.
- Movement-related gaps between Rhinoboard cornices and walls.
- Localised peeling, bubbling and discolouration of existing wall paint.
- Possible rising damp affecting two bedroom walls.
- A stained bathroom ceiling requiring separate preparation.
- Chips and worn coatings on selected doors, frames and skirting.
- A timber dining-area ceiling requiring surface preparation and refinishing.
The quotation recorded possible rising damp on two bedroom walls. This does not establish that every area of bubbling or discolouration elsewhere in the home had the same moisture source.
Specified Interior Preparation and Coatings
Different surfaces required separate preparation and finishing systems.
The historical quotation specified Dulux 100 Low Sheen for prepared plastered walls and Dulux Wall & Ceiling Paint for Rhinoboard ceilings.
The stained bathroom ceiling required suitable stain-blocking preparation using Universal Undercoat before finishing.
The dining-area timber ceiling required light sanding to create a suitable key before the specified Dulux Woodgard varnish system.
Doors, frames and skirting required filling of suitable chips, removal of loose paint, sanding, appropriate wood priming and the specified Dulux Pearlglo Water Based finishing system.
Suitable movement-related cornice gaps were specified for flexible polyurethane sealing rather than ordinary rigid filler alone.
The named products reflect the original project quotation. The appropriate products for a new project must be confirmed against current supplier specifications and actual substrate conditions.

Our Interior Painting Preparation Process
1. Interior Inspection and Written Quotation
We inspect walls, ceilings, cornices, painted woodwork and other relevant surfaces before specifying the work. Existing damage and special preparation requirements are recorded in the quotation.
2. Protecting Floors, Furniture and Fixtures
Flooring, furniture and adjoining finishes are protected before preparation begins. Masking and suitable covering materials help control dust, paint splashes and surface damage.
3. Preparing Loose and Deteriorating Paint
Unsound coatings are removed or suitably prepared. Contamination and unstable areas must be addressed before new paint is applied.
4. Plaster Crack Repairs
Hairline cracks, wider plaster cracks and movement-related defects require different preparation methods. The stability of the substrate determines which repairs are appropriate.
See Wall Preparation & Crack Repairs Kuils River for a detailed explanation.
5. Cornice and Ceiling Junctions
Gaps between cornices and walls can occur where different building materials move. Suitable flexible joint systems may be specified where appropriate. Continuing movement may still cause future defects.
6. Moisture and Stain Assessment
Where relevant, Protimeter readings support the physical inspection. Existing staining, peeling and bubbling must be assessed rather than automatically attributed to rising damp.
7. Primers and Finishing Coats
Appropriate primers and finishing products are selected according to the substrate and agreed finish. Walls, ceilings, timber and painted joinery may require different coating systems.
8. Final Inspection
Completed surfaces are reviewed against the agreed scope before handover, including relevant cleaning and preparation of the property for normal use.
Painting Interior Walls in Kuils River Homes
Interior walls can have previous coating defects, plaster cracks, repaired areas, staining and differences in absorbency.
Suitable preparation helps create a more consistent appearance and improves the reliability of the new finishing system.
We discuss appropriate sheen levels, washable finishes and other practical product considerations with the homeowner before the final specification is agreed.
Ceiling Painting and Water-Stain Preparation
Rhinoboard ceilings require appropriate preparation, especially at cornices, taped joints, previously repaired areas and locations affected by historic staining.
Water-stained ceilings may require stain-blocking preparation before repainting. Where staining results from an active leak, that source must be addressed separately.
Our Zevenwacht Village project included both Rhinoboard ceiling painting and treatment of a stained bathroom ceiling.
Cornice Cracks and Movement-Related Gaps
Cornices may develop cracks and gaps where adjoining materials move independently.
The Zevenwacht Village inspection recorded cornice-to-wall gaps associated with ceiling movement under windy conditions. The original specification included suitable flexible polyurethane sealing.
These junctions should be assessed separately from ordinary static wall cracks. No coating or sealant can guarantee that future structural movement will never become visible.
Painting Doors, Frames and Skirting
Painted interior timber is exposed to regular handling and abrasion. It therefore requires appropriate sanding, repair, priming and finishing rather than simply applying ordinary wall paint.
Chipped paint, hard coating edges and bare timber must be prepared according to the condition of the material.
Our Zevenwacht Village quotation included suitable timber primers, undercoat and Dulux Pearlglo Water Based for painted joinery.
Repainting Varnished Timber Ceilings
Existing varnished timber may require light sanding or suitable abrasion to reduce sheen and provide a key for the selected finishing system.
Timber movement, existing coating condition and product compatibility must be assessed before refinishing.
The Zevenwacht Village dining-area timber ceiling provides genuine local evidence of this specialised interior preparation.
Interior Paint Bubbling, Peeling and Damp-Related Problems
Interior paint may deteriorate because of moisture, weak adhesion, contamination, previous coating defects or unsuitable preparation.
Visible bubbling does not automatically prove rising damp. A proper assessment considers the condition of the wall, history of the defect, possible moisture-entry routes and relevant meter readings.
Our Why Paint Peels, Bubbles & Fails in Kuils River guide discusses these issues using actual local projects.
For appropriate damp-related masonry preparation and limitations, read Damp Proofing Kuils River.
Interior Painting in Zevenwacht and Kuils River Estates
Painting a home inside a managed estate may require separate contractor registration, approved working hours, employee identification and arrangements for protecting common property.
During our July 2026 Zevenwacht Village project, the HOA supplied contractor instructions covering security access and site management.
Requirements can change and differ between estates. Zevenwacht Village and Zevenwacht Country Estate are separate developments, so their rules must not be assumed identical.

Interior Painting Across Kuils River Neighbourhoods
Zevenwacht Village and Zevenwacht Country Estate
Our documented Zevenwacht Village interior repaint provides genuine experience of estate-home painting. Separate contractor and property requirements must be confirmed for each estate.
Haasendal and De Kuile
Newer homes and managed residential developments may require first maintenance repaints, plaster crack repairs, ceiling preparation and assessment of developer-applied coatings.
Amandelrug, Soneike and Amandelsig
Established homes may have previous coatings, plaster repairs, moisture-related symptoms, ageing joinery and accumulated wear requiring preparation.
Rouxville, Jagtershof, Highbury and Sarepta
We provide appropriate interior painting for residential properties in these areas, with each quotation based on the actual condition of the surfaces.
How Much Does Interior House Painting Cost in Kuils River?
Interior painting costs depend on the number of rooms, painted wall and ceiling areas, cracks, coating deterioration, timber and joinery, stain-blocking requirements, access and property protection.

This historical quotation included walls, ceilings, cornices, timber and painted joinery. It was not a walls-only quotation, a standard rate or an independently verified final invoice.

Where appropriate, we use Protimeter readings alongside physical observations. The Zevenwacht Village inspection recorded readings from 8.5 to 16.7.
Can damp-related coating treatments permanently stop rising damp?
